In loving memory of Jimmy Zimmer: Grandson, Son, Brother, Nephew, Uncle, Friend. |
A LITTLE HISTORY: Jimmy wasn't exactly a master of time management. He had an uncanny ability to leave things to the very last minute. It didn't seem to ever really bother him, I wish I could say the same. On Monday, February 25, 2002 around 5pm, I received a call from Jim. Seems the professional procrastinator had an assignment due for his English class that he needed some help with. I was still at work, it was Monday, I was tired, and probably a little irritated that he left something to the last minute. I told him to write up what he had and email it to me. I'd check it when I got home and help him. Jim was supposed to write a personal essay, like the one you'd use on a college application. Definately important and something I wanted to help with. He always came to me for help on things like that. Well, the little man had some technical difficulties in trying to get me the essay. I tried being understanding, but you will still see a little frustration coming through. I guess that's enough set up for this, the actual AIM conversation between myself and wrstlr37 is below. Why did I save it that night at 10:35pm? Well, I thought that someday it would be important. Today is that day. Enjoy this little insight into Jimmy's mind and heart. I didn't edit anything out, left all of our type-o's in there. Anyone who's ever chatted with him will be able to tell the stuff below is straight from him. The kid had a hell of a heart, his perspective on life was something not many people were fortunate enough to see. I think he'd like all of you to see this...... | THE CONVERSATION:

wrstlr37: All my life I lived in a little town of Waupun in South West Wisconsin. Now Waupun a typical days
events are dealing with the outdoors in some way. Some examples are fishing, hunting, hiking, and having paintball
games. I grew up in Waupun and as I grew the more I found out how important it is to go to college. If I wanted
my childhood dreams of becoming a police officer to come true I would have to get good grades and be active in
extra curricular activities. While I lived in Waupun I was having the time of my life, I had everything friends, family,
and wrestling. But this all changed when my mother met someone in another state. We soon packed out bags and
headed for the big city of Chicago.

Once we hit Chicago, my view of life, people, and morals quickly changed. When we first got there we all had to
live in Lincoln Park. I personally did not like it there. I new that I would have to stick to my guns in sorta speak.
Here people didn't care where they would be on down the road. One positive thing I found out here is that I would
have to work very hard to get what I wanted in life. I saw thousands of people that wished that they were in my
position and had the chance to be someone. Here there were people from all walks of life. One of my best friends
was from Poland. While I was there people would deal with guns, drugs, and alcohol on a daily basis this I was not
ready for in any way. In Waupun I did not run into these things often but here I did. I learned that if I had stayed in
Waupun I would have had an easy time staying out of trouble. But once I got to college I would be in trouble
because I was not use to any of these new things. I think that it was better for me to go threw this at an early age
instead of it being when it really counted in college. The only thing that got me threw this without falling into any of
the bad habits is knowing that in order to succeed I had to stay clean. Since I was a little kid I new in order to
become a police officer I had to stay out of trouble and get good grades and go to college. It has always meant a
lot to me to go to college and succeed and have a nice home, car
wrstlr37: and a family. After seeing and listening to all of the homeless people in Chicago I soon found out what I
had to do to get into college. Here it would be much harder to stay out of trouble but I was ready for it. This soon
got old and we once again packed our bags and headed to Hinsdale, which is south of Chicago.
Hinsdale was certainly an upgrade from Lincoln Park. Here I felt like I belonged, even though all of the people here
were very wealthy and thought highly of themselves. The people here knew that they had to do good in school and
in the community in order to succeed and go to college. So here I had a little more support to succeed. Although
there were some weird rules here such as that we could only water our yard on odd days and there was a certain
amount of energy each house could get without the bill being very high. Here I had many friends, one night while me
and a friend were rollarblading I just remembered how lucky I was when I had it all and then got it taken away. I
refused to fall into the bad habits that many people fall into. Here people showed me that they never had to worry
about drugs, guns, and alcohol. They had no access to these harmful items. But soon I had to pack my bags for the
final move of my high school life, hopefully. We were moving to Fond du Lac Wisconsin.
When I got to Fond du Lac, I felt welcomed. Here I made many new friends and I prospered in Wrestling.
Although I thought the climax of my life was in Waupun . I soon realized that my whole teen life is the climax of my
life. I now learned that even though I had everything I had ever dreamed of in Waupun, I still could have all that and
more anywhere I moved to I just had to work at it. I also learned that it since I worked hard it all got better as time
went on. Even though other people were having fun not going to school and doing drugs I'm still happy that I stuck
it out and worked hard so that I can go to college and be some one. In order to succeed all I had to do is stick to
my morals and know everything would get better, it did for me as far as I think.
